Accrington Stanley fans were still celebrating today after victory in the first round of the FA Cup.

And Andy Gouck is the town's hero after his injury time winner saw off Huddersfield Town in yesterday afternoon's televised clash.

Around 4,000 home fans, who outnumbered 400 supporters of the Division Three Yorkshire club, were there to celebrate at the Interlink Express Stadium.

Club secretary John Demaine said: "It's magnificent. What a magnificent goal, what a magnificent day. I feel very proud and I'm really pleased for chairman Eric Whalley.

"The manager John Coleman and his assistant Jimmy Bell have been magnificent. I'd like to thank them for what they've done.

"It's the best football Accrington Stanley have played and this is the best squad at the Interlink Express Stadium. They have a magnificent camaraderie and it showed.

"I'm really pleased we showed up well on TV and pleased for Hyndburn Borough Council and Peter Britcliffe who went out of his way when we approached the council about sponsoring the team. People will know where Hyndburn is now."

Manager John Coleman said: "I'm delighted. We will go and give it our best shot in the next round. I fancy going against Liverpool after that."

Coun Britcliffe, leader of Hyndburn Borough Council, said: "It's wonderful. It is great news for Accrington Stanley and for Hyndburn. All those connected with the club have done us proud."

Chairman of Accrington Stanley, Eric Whalley, said: "Huddersfield went down to 10 men and at the end of the day we scored a brilliant goal."

Delighted fan Barry Cook, 37, of Avenue Parade, Accrington, said: "What a goal! Stanley deserved it."

Also enjoying the match were former Blackburn Rovers star David Dunn and fiancee Sammy Wynyard from TV soap Emmerdale as well as current Rovers favourite Lucas Neill.

Accrington Stanley's next FA Cup match will be against Bournemouth at the Fitness First Stadium on December 6.
