ELEVEN intrepid walkers from an East Lancashire cement company are looking to raise thousands for charity.

The hikers will set off from the Castle Cement's Ribblesdale plant to walk 147 miles to the sister quarry in Ketton, Cambridgeshire.

After having a quick bite to eat and a nap, they will set off on the second leg of their journey to the Padeswood plant in North Wales, a distance of 137 miles, before trudging back the remaining 81 miles to Ribblesdale. In total they will walk 365 miles, one for every day of the year.

The walkers are raising funds to be split between three regional air ambulance services, including the North West.

Organiser Peter Fielding said: "I was inspired by my father, a veteran of charity walks, who had a heart attack a few months ago.

"I thought he might not be able to do this sort of thing again so I decided to take up the mantle."

The trek begins on March 28 and is expected to last four days.
