A DARWEN company has landed a prestigious contract working on fuel tanks for giant Hercules C-130 transport aircraft.

Brookhouse Composites, based at India Mill, was hired by Marshall Aerospace to carry out the work which Marshall - despite being one of the largest aerospace firms in the UK - did not have the right equipment for.

The mammoth fuel tanks had to be transported to the Darwen factory where specialist equipment was used to weld them. Then the tanks were transported back to the Cambridgeshire airfield where the aircraft are kept.

The job was the second high-profile contract to be carried out by Brookhouse recently. The firm has also been asked by Airbus to carry out repairs and maintenance of parts used in its aircraft.
