GREAT Harwood Town's remarkable unbeaten run came to an end with a 2-0 defeat at NWCL Division Two strugglers Cheadle Town.

The Robins were unbeaten in 21 league games but they never looked like extending the feat against their determined Cheshire hosts.

Town boss John Hughes said: "We were poor all round and lacked pace up front with Matty Derbyshire and Paul Mashiter missing.

"Cheadle won all the battles, but we now just need to bounce back and go on another run."

The visitors created little although Warren Baker did manage to get the ball in the net however his effort was ruled out for offside.

By that stage Cheadle were one goal to the good through a low driven free kick by McDonald that bisected the Great Harwood wall.

With 20 minutes to play McDonald grabbed his second of the game from the penalty spot after stand in keeper Graham Kershaw brought down an advancing striker.
