One of Kenya's fastest exports has been helping to promote the British round of the FIA World Rally Championship, Wales Rally GB.

Jazz Nandhra took a Mitsubishi Evolution 7 rally car through its paces at Walters Arena in south Wales, one of the special stages of Wales Rally GB, showing Jon Desborough, Channel 4's World Rally Championship (WRC) presenter just what the car could do.

The event was held as a warm-up to the start of the Wales Rally GB, which will run from the 6th to the 9th of November at various stages around south Wales.

Originally from Kenya and now living in Middlesex, Jazz spent the early part of this summer filming for Bollywood. The movie, due for release next year, features a rally-driving hero for whom Jazz did most of the rally driving scenes.

The only Asian rally driver on the British circuit, Jazz says, "I was delighted to be chosen to help promote the Wales Rally GB. People often ask me why there are not more Asian youngsters on the rally scene. Motorsport in general is not high on the sporting agenda for Asians - although it is picking up more support in India and in the UK.

"I believe this lack of interest is only due to the fact that there are very few Asians involved in motorsport and there are no role models in rallying for young Asians to follow."

Committed and totally passionate about rallying, Jazz would like to help change that. He continues, "My ambition is to make rallying my fulltime career, and in so doing promote rallying to an Asian audience. I want to demonstrate how much fun this competitive sport can be when you are pitting your wits against time and teams and rallying cars of the very latest specification."

The 28 year old was one of the leading drivers in the Peugeot 206 Super Cup in 2002, his achievements culminating in an excellent 3rd overall on the demanding Jim Clark Rally, held in Scotland. Jazz's Peugeot has now been sold, as he looks for backers to give him the support needed to enable him to enter the 2004 Mitsubishi Evo Challenge.
