ASTHMA sufferers in Blackburn and Darwen are being warned not to drink a certain type of red wine bought from Lidl stores, after it was found to contain sulphur dioxide.
Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council's trading standards service today urged asthma sufferers to check if they had any of the bottles of Australian Creston Bay Brand Cabernet Shiraz.
The 2002 vintage has been found to contain high levels of sulphur dioxide preservative.
It can present a health risk for asthmatics who may have an allergy to sulphur dioxide.
Either ingestion or inhalation of the sulphur dioxide could trigger an asthmatic reaction.
Lidl has withdrawn all the affected products from sale but consumers may still have bottles in their homes.
The wine is in a clear green bottle, 0.75 litre size, Bordeaux shape, with an agglomerate cork and black plastic cap.The words 'Creston Bay' appear on the label in white set into a black background, with a picture of a kangaroo immediately above.
There is a larger white label below which has one red edge, with the words 'Australian' and 'Cabernet Shiraz' on it, with a picture of a tree in the middle.
Only bottles with the year 2002 displayed on the rear label are covered by this warning.
