LANCASHIRE police, with a detection rate of 25 per cent, an apparent inability to understand why they are not loved and who dispute statistics that are proven when those statistics show them in a poor light, have found another avenue to harass the motorist.
Despite having no figures to prove an increase in 'morning after' drink driving and always claiming a manpower shortage, they have promised to set up more checkpoints in the mornings.
Can we be assured that these points will not amount to random testing and that the required criteria for stopping and breathalysing drivers will be adhered to.
Unless people have committed a morning traffic offence or the police have reason to believe they have been drinking, they should not be stopped at the whim of an officer seeking some brownie points.
