THE remedy for Anti-Social Behaviour is in the title. Social relates to society, so what we have is anti-society behaviour.

Instead of hit and miss ASBOs, which are hard to monitor, I suggest isolating the anti from society and everything it supplies.

Six months at Scapa Flow with no electricity, no mobiles, no radio or TV, no drugs, no tobacco, no alcohol, no personal possessions, no photographs, no newspapers, no sweets or chocolate, no junk food, get up with the sun and go to bed at sunset.

Dig peat, tend vegetable patches and, during winter months or bad weather, access to book learning and tuition from the 14-day-on seven-day-off rotated staff. One letter in and out per week (providing behaviour is acceptable).

Upon release back into society a high visibility vest with 'vandal' in large letters on the rack to be worn for one month outside the designated 'home' address. If found without the vest outside the 'home' automatic return to Scapa for a re-run six months and a two month vest-wear and so on. The rationale is:

A. punish

B. remove all society-provided comforts

c. educate

Make them appreciate what society provides.
