A GRANDMOTHER has been left in the dark by poor lighting at Accrington railway station car park.
Hyndburn Council officials have promised to rectify the problem as soon as possible after being told up to 50 per cent of the lights don't work.
Margaret Allonby has been frightened of being alone on the station at night since she was attacked there in 1984.
Although she wasn't injured at the time, the incident left her frightened of being alone there.
The 64-year-old has to pick up her daughter from the station four nights a week and says she now waits in the council-controlled car park and locks all her doors.
"Since then I have always been vulnerable. When the clocks went back, all the lights were out the day after - everything was pitch black.
"I rang the council and it took them three days to put them on. Then two out of the four lights were out. I rang them last week and told them but they have still not been fixed."
Mrs Allonby is now calling for better lighting in the car park.
"I feel extremely vulnerable. I pick up my daughter from the train station and I have my two-year-old granddaughter in the back," she said.
"There are two lights out in the passageway leading to the station as well. I'm always worried now. I'm more concerned about my daughter than myself.
"All I want is some proper lighting and I want it seven days a week, particularly in the winter time."
Council leader Peter Britcliffe said: "I understand there was a problem with these lights a few weeks ago which was then rectified. We will look into this new problem urgently and get it sorted out as soon as possible."
