A WOMAN is demanding action after thieves made off with objects from a family grave.
Beverley Blacow, 33, says it is about time Lancaster City Council boosted cemetery security after a flowerpot and flowers were snatched from Westgate cemetery, Morecambe.
For she told the Citizen: "This is far from the first time it has happened. Other things have been stolen before and it is really upsetting to find that someone has done something like this - it is supposed to be a sacred place."
She goes on: "It is sickening. You expect that when you leave things on a grave they will be there next time, but when my friend's husband died the hedgehogs and small motorbike models she left on the grave were taken and she was devastated."
Beverley says there have been a string of instances of theft and anti-social behaviour - including a fire in the cemetery in the run-up to bonfire night .
She wants to see security measures, including CCTV, installed.
"When I have reported cases to the local estate manager I have been told that they are aware of the problems but nothing gets done," adds angry Beverley.
A spokesperson for Lancaster City Council told the Citizen: "The council is aware of the problems which, unfortunately, exists in its cemeteries and with the resources available does all it can to respond to and deal with complaints in liaison with the police and community support officers."
