A YOUTH who said to have mounted a campaign of abuse and threats on a takeaway manager and staff is today awaiting sentence.

Benjamin Myers, 20, accused of racial harassment, was convicted by a Burnley Crown Court jury of the lesser offence of harassment after a three-day trial.

Myers, of Kirkstall Drive, Barnoldswick, was bailed until January 9 for a pre-sentence report by Judge Christopher Cornwall.

The court had heard claims the defendant was racially offensive to the staff at the shop on Station Road, Barnoldswick, over two weeks in March.

He was said to have demanded free food, told the staff they should go back to their own countries and took off his shirt to show his skin was white. Myers was also alleged to have said he would smash the shop windows.

When the defendant was arrested by police, he claimed he had been denied a burger and chips which had been paid for and he had given some "back chat."

He said he had not been racially offensive or threatened to cause damage.
