Christmas came early in Rossendale thanks to the Northwest Development Agency.
Steven Broomhead, Chief Executive of the NWDA, joined a host of children for a festive trip on the East Lancashire Railway. Santa Claus also made an appearance, distributing gifts along the way.
The steam powered Santa Special travelled along the route through the Irwell Valley, from Bury, via Ramsbottom, to Rawtenstall.
Mr Broomhead said: "This fantastic trip provided a unique opportunity to journey back in time and appreciate an important part of our region's historical legacy, as well as getting into the spirit of Christmas.
"The NWDA recognises the importance of supporting and preserving our region's railway network and I am delighted we could show our support in this festive way."
