A LARGE wooden cross, given to young people by Pope John Paul II when he began his papacy, will be travelling to the North West for the first time in January.
The World Youth Day Cross will be received by The Bishop, the Right Rev Terence Brain, at a special youth service next month at the Cathedral of St John in Salford.
Young churchgoers from East Lancashire will have seen the cross at World Youth Day events around the world, including the most recent in Toronto, Canada.
The cross, which is constantly on the move, symbolises young people's involvement in the church and has been seen by millions of youngsters from every continent.
Anyone wanting details about the World Youth Day Cross event should contact Salford Diocesan Youth Officer, Bob Beardsworth on 01254 395650.
