COULD someone from the council please explain to me and many other people why the flower beds at the entrance to Corporation Park have been demolished and replaced with fancy stones and paving which, on completion, will look very plain and boring?
Could some also tell me if the horse chestnut tree that has stood at this entrance for more than 140 years was deceased, or is this the council's act of vandalism?
J WALSH (Mrs), Preston Old Road, Blackburn.
Footnote: A council spokesman said the flower beds and trees outside the main entrance in Preston New Road were being removed as part of a multi-million pound revamp.
According to the council, the stone archway was in danger from tree roots and the area is being restored to its original state as we have already reported.
