PLANS for a mobile telephone mast for the emergency services in Burnley, which has twice been rejected by the council on the grounds of public safety, is to be reconsidered.
The proposed 20-metre mast would have been installed on Lawrence Avenue providing a radio link for the ambulance, fire and police services in the area.
The proposed site is off Cog Lane, near to the Barclay Hills estate.
Uncertainty over the effect of telephone masts on public health caused councillors to refuse the application on two previous occasions in April last year and last January.
A report presented to the council stated that the balance of evidence indicated there was no general risk to the health of people living nearby but as a precaution set out various guidelines, which operators must adhere to in the interests of public health and safety.
The mast will be discussed at a meeting of the council's executive tomorrow.
