BURNLEY Pendle and Rossendale Primary Care Trust (PCT) is urging people to get the right treatment this winter.
The winter months bring special challenges for the NHS, social services and other caring and emergency services.
The colder weather usually means more people suffer from minor ailments like coughs, colds, sore throats and flu.
However, with the right advice and information, many of these health problems can be treated effectively at home, says the PCT.
Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale PCT has produced a leaflet for each of the three boroughs, giving details of Christmas and New Year GP opening times and how to contact a doctor when your own surgery is closed.
The leaflet also offers advice on how to get the right treatment during the winter months and provides a list of useful telephone numbers covering a wide variety of health services.
These leaflets are available through doctors' surgeries, health centres and clinics and local pharmacists.
