WITH the Christmas party season in full flow Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale Primary Care Trust is reminding the public about the availability of the morning-after pill.
The pill has been available free on request from selected pharmacies throughout the three boroughs since 2002.
The morning after pill is also available from Brook clinics, GP surgeries, Step in surgeries and family planning clinics.
Malcolm Fagelman, project director for the pharmacy scheme, stressed that the pill could be taken up to three days after unprotected sex, although it was more effective the earlier it is taken.
He said: "The service is offered by trained pharmacists, is completely free and confidential, and consists of a short consultation in a private area of the pharmacy to make sure the pill will be safe and effective for those requesting it."
For details of participating pharmacies in the area telephone NHS Direct on 0845 4647 or visit the website at www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk.
