CHILDREN with social and behavioural difficulties are to get a helping hand at a Colne Primary School.
Park Primary School has officially launched the Rainbow Class, which is a special facility for children aged between four and 10 who have problems accessing the curriculum.
The initiative is the fourth of its kind in Lancashire, with one in Preston and two in Accrington.
A successful bid to the Children's Fund has paid for a classroom to be refurbished and staff to be appointed to run the special class.
The room has its own kitchen and comfortable area to create a home-like atmosphere in which young peoplecan feel secure.
Each child is set targets, which are closely monitored by staff and parents.
The Rainbow Class was officially opened by Pendle MP Gordon Prentice, who cut the ribbon after a special school assembly.
The event was also attended by representatives from the Children's Fund, Lancashire Educational Psychology Service, Lancashire Parents Partnership, school governors and parents.
Mr Prentice said: "I was delighted to be asked to open the Rainbow Class and enjoyed meeting the staff, children and parents, and all those involved in setting up the initiative.
"I am sure that it is a much-needed facility, which will help many children."
