I DISAGREE with Cllr Grattan about boundary changes Letters, last week).
Ever since we lost the Rural District Councils 30 years ago, villages in the Lancaster district have been virtually ignored by County Hall in Preston. This applies to school buildings, libraries, roads and policing.
Has the county fought for Lancaster's rail services not to be downgraded? No, it is happy that, at the only place the 'West Coast Main Line' comes near the west coast, the trains will not stop. They stop at Preston so why worry?
Another example of indifference is leaving the 55A village buses off the electronic display for months.
If our district teamed up with Preston it would be just the same for every local authority service outside urban centres.
However, South Lakeland and Barrow councils do not spend all their taxes in Kendal and Barrow; places like Grange and Ulverston are looked after. By linking north we would have a lot more rural-minded councillors, who care about the smaller settlements.
Some good councillors might even be encouraged to stand for Morecambe! Let's go for it!
