RESIDENTS in Ramsbottom are demanding a grit box is placed on their road after the icy weather caused treacherous conditions again this week.
Mr Adrian Smith, of Hill Side Road, at the bottom of Holcombe Hill, claims that when it rains, water runs down the road because of problems with the drains in the area. He said: "When the road is wet and it freezes over, it's like a glacier."
Mr Smith said he had contacted Bury Council a number of times over the past few years in an attempt to get the gritters to cover the road during the winter.
But he said the road was still left untreated, and now he is asking for a grit box to be placed on Hill Side Road so residents can make provisions themselves.
A council spokesman said: "We have no problem in supplying a gritting bin if they would like to contact us to tell us what they require."
