PENDLE primary school children helped to spruce up a Colne park by planting 8,000 crocus bulbs.
The 60 children from Sacred Heart Primary School, in Red Lane, braved the icy weather to carry out planting work at Alkincoats Park.
The youngsters were helping the council's Park Ranger Service and members of volunteer group, the Friends of Alkincoats Park, to plant the bulbs at various locations in the park's grounds.
Fred Stewart, of the council's parks section, said: "We normally plant for naturalization 2,000 to 3,000 bulbs at a time but we are doing more in this park due to the assistance of the schoolchildren.
"This number of bulbs will bring colour and beauty to the park for local people to enjoy for many years to come."
