PEOPLE are being urged to book their place for this year's Mayor's Command Performance as soon as possible.
The mayor, Darwen councillor Mike Barrett, will present the event at Darwen Library Theatre on Saturday, January 24, and it will be compered by Darwen's comedy king, Don Banks.
Local artistes will take to the stage throughout the evening, which starts at 7.30pm. They include tenor James Fitzgerald and singer Victoria O'Connor, and there will be popular songs from the shows performed by James Loynes.
Entertainment from the Habibi Dancers, Brett Slater, the Dapa Dancers and music from all-girl pop group Topaz is also promised.
All proceeds raised from the night will go to the mayor's nominated charity for 2003/4 which is United We Stand, Divided We Fall, a cause assisting local groups challenging disadvantage, deprivation and persecution.
Tickets at £5.50 are available from Darwen Library, Monday to Saturday, on 01254 706006, or by post to Darwen Library Theatre, Knott Street, Darwen, BB3 3BU.
