LEIGH Local History Society have published a new book by prolific writer Fred Holcroft.
"The Cotton Famine in the Leigh Area" gives a brief account of the problems faced by mill workers when, at the start of the American Civil War, the blockade of ports of the American South prevented supplies of raw cotton from reaching Lancashire.
How the guardians handled the situation forms the main part of the book.
It is on sale at Chamley's, Leigh, and libraries.
