AN East Lancashire town centre held a special ceremony to bless the Christmas crib outside its town hall.
Accrington's annual carol service was held at St James' church beforehand with a choir of schoolchildren from St Mary Magdalene School and a soloist from Moorhead High School. The congregation then made their way to the town hall where the nativity has been given pride of place.
In a ceremony accompanied by a recital of "Away in a Manger" from the children. The Mayor of Accrington, Coun Win Frankland, who was invited to the event, said: "It all went very well, we finished the day by going to the town hall for refreshments. "The children then went to the Council Chamber and had lots of fun pretending to be mayor."
