THE manager of a community centre in Darwen has praised the generosity of people in the town who have inundated her with toys and food for local children and elderly.
Sue Freear, who runs Sudellside Community Centre, has been working with the Lancashire Evening Telegraph on the Be A Star Campaign to appeal for toys and tinned food in the run-up to Christmas.
She said: "People have been really generous and the response has been absolutely brilliant. We have taken the toys to shelters and hospitals and the food hampers we have made up have gone out to senior citizens locally. I have taken toys and food to the local shelter and to a family whose house burned down. I just want those that have given things to know how grateful everyone has been."
Workers from the centre delivered the goods during the past two weeks.
