POLICE are appealing for help after an attempted armed bank robbery in Bury on Monday morning.
The 39-year-old manageress of the Barclays Bank branch in Crostons Road was opening shortly after 9am when she was confronted by the masked raide rcarrying a weapon described as a short Samurai sword.
However, staff at the neighbouring post office witnessed the incident and activated an alarm.
The robber fled in a white Honda Civic which was driven by a second offender. The car had been stolen from Coniston Drive, Bury and was later found abandoned in Spencer Street, Elton.
Detective Sergeant Duncan Heywood, of Bury's operational police unit, said: "The manageress was not injured but was left very distressed.
"We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the attempted robbery and also anyone who saw the men leave the stolen Honda Civic in Spencer Street and transfer to another vehicle."
