THE COMMUNITY of Topping Fold and Fairfield will soon be awash with colour and wildlife, thanks to a grant of £25,000.
Residents living in the area decided to turn individual gardens, to the rear of the community centre and library on Topping Fold Road, into a place for everyone to enjoy.
The total cost of the gardening project will be £34,500 with £25,000 obtained by the Topping Fold and Fairfield Tenants and Residents Association through the Living Spaces Fund. Housing Services contributed £7,500 and the East Bury Initiative, £2,000.
An open day was held on the estate where tenants and residents could view the various designs for the garden and make any changes.
The project is due to commence early in the new year, and the community will be involved in planting flowers and shrubs in the garden and will be responsible for the maintenance of the garden with guidance from Groundwork Bury and Bury Council.
Stephanie Devine, community development worker, said: "Full credit for the success of this project must go to the Topping Fold and Fairfield Tenants and Residents Association who have worked hard to produce a garden for all members of the community to enjoy.
"The garden will complement the extension of the community centre and the library which will enhance the services and benefits to the community."
Other National Lottery good causes which have been presented with Living Spaces grants in the past include Ramsbottom Arts Festival which received £1,500, the Bury Met Deaf Society which was presented with £4,950 and Bury Photographic Society which received £669,000 in 2000.
