Christmas does not provide many presents for the environment - with tonnes of extra rubbish being produced.
But Lancaster folk can do their bit by recycling Christmas trees on January 11 from 11am at the White Lund Depot, Morecambe, and taking away the chippings to use in gardens.
Lancaster City Council is providing a free tree chipping service for green-thinking locals, and is also asking people to take old Christmas cards to Lancaster or Morecambe Town Halls, where special collection boxes will be available.
The council adds that now is also the time to get a composter up and running to recycle fruit and vegetable scraps.
"I hope residents will recycle as much as they can over Christmas to reduce the extra amount of waste created," says Cllr Jon Barry.
"I would urge everyone to help the environment by planting their tree, composting it at home or taking it to White Lund Depot."
