AN office building is earmarked for part of a site Astleyites want as their village green.
Villagers want the open space, where Astley Green pit baths and canteen once stood, officially designated a village green.
A fifth of the site is subject to a planning application for offices but Councillor John Lea says the new building will compliment the site and provide welcome revenue for the colliery project.
"The building design has been very carefully chosen," he said.
"The pit site will benefit from £40,000 of landfill tax money which will be used to provide fencing, help finish the railway and provide canal berths.
"I am also thinking of spending Brighter Borough money on a fountain or water feature in front of the museum site. It wouldn't cost a fortune and with the new building would really enhance the area."
