KERB side recycling has saved over nine thousand trees since September.
Now Wigan Council will extend its paper recycling operation borough-wide after a successful pilot scheme.
Cllr Lynne Liptrot thanked those who had taken part in the trial scheme and said in the hank you to everyone in the trial scheme. Now it's time for everyone
to join the paper chase! Over the next few months, residents will be getting
full details and a bag, ready for fortnightly collections of paper on their
regular bin day."
Did you know?
* Recycling a metre high stack of newspaper saves one tree
from being cut down to make paper.
* Strict government rules, as well as the demands of 75% of
locals according to a recent study, mean that the council is pushing hard to
up the recycling figures. There are already over 80 kerbside locations such
as supermarkets and pubs to take cans, bottles and other materials. This
year the local green team has campaigned against junk mail, staged
exhibitions and urged residents to use shopping bags for life, not wasteful
plastic bags. And next year, with eight exhibitions planned at local
supermarkets and paper collections for all, there really is no excuse for
not making it a green 2004.
