I HAVE recently read in the Citizen that there are proposals to turn parts of Greaves Park, Lancaster, into a 'wooded area'. Could I, through the paper, give the following information.
Some of the existing specimen trees there were planted by the Trades Council and my union (MSF) in memory of colleagues who have died.
Also, many of the bulbs that appear each spring were planted by families who have lost children by miscarriage, and to disturb them could prove quite traumatic for these people.
While the park does need some tidying it should be remembered that it is supposed to be a green 'space' where people can meet as families. There is a need for this in the city centre and it would be good to see some low-key family activity organised in this area.
County Cllr Jean Yates, Hey-sham ward.
