A NEW scheme to encourage healthier eating will begin in the new year in the Brookhouse and Bastwell area of Blackburn.
Cooking on Prescription aims to provide opportunities for people who suffer from diet related diseases, such as coronary heart disease, diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure or high cholesterol, to learn new and healthier ways of cooking which could improve their health.
To take advantage of this scheme, residents should ask their GP or practice nurse for a referral.
However if people are interested but don't have time to go to the sessions, a family member who predominantly cooks in the household can go on their behalf and take away healthy cooking knowledge.
The scheme, which will be held at Mount Pleasant Centre in Blackburn, is also available to those from the community who simply enjoy cooking and wish to learn new skills.
Everything is free, including equipment and ingredients.
