BURNLEY residents are being urged to plan ahead and think about how festive items can be recycled.
Christmas cards, bottles, cans and trees can all be recycled rather than thrown away for landfill.
Cards can be placed in the white sacks used for recycling newspapers and real Christmas trees will be accepted at the borough's waste recycling centres in Grosvenor Street, Burnley, and Padiham.
Glass, cans, aluminium foil and aerosol cans can be placed in the blue boxes collected from kerbsides every fortnight.
Councillor Linda Gauton, executive member for public protection and community safety said: "It's worth remembering that when Christmas is all over there is a positive way of disposing of cards, wrapping paper and other things associated with the festivities.
"Rather than putting things in the bin, they can be put to one side and recycled when thigs have quietened down."
