PROPOSALS to build 24 homes on open land near Hendon Brook in Nelson will go before councillors next week.
The plans, submitted by Eagle Property Services, are for two detached houses and 11 pairs of semi-detached houses on the north side of Hallam Road, between Dale Mill and Valley Close.
Council officers have recommended that the plans be refused, following objections from the Environment Agency.
A report to go before councillors states that the homes would form a cul-de-sac leading north toward Hendon Brook, with the two detached houses at the end, above the flood level of the watercourse.
The Environment Agency's objection to the proposals is on the grounds that Hendon Brook is due to become a main river next year and it is unclear whether the planned development would reduce the flood channel.
The report recommends the scheme in its current form be refused because of the lack of information about the impact on the flood channel.
Councillors will discuss the proposals at a meeting of the Nelson Committee next Monday at 7pm.
