PEOPLE out walking near Darwen Tower are being urged to be on their guard by the police after a syringe containing insulin was lost on the moors.
It is believe the dose of insulin in the syringe could be lethal to anyone who does not normally use the drug, particularly children.
Inspector Steve Samsbury said: "The syringe was lost in the Darwen Tower area of Darwen on the evening of Saturday. The exact quantity of insulin contained in the syringe is unknown at this stage but the person who lost it believes it could be lethal if injected by a non insulin-dependant individual.
"We are appealing for people to be careful in that location especially if they are out with children.
"If anyone comes across that item they should contact the police in Darwen on 01254 51212 and we will deal with the matter accordingly."
