THE UK Noise Association would like to hear from any of your readers who have experienced noise problems caused by anti-social students.
We are currently compiling a report into this issue which has been brought to our attention in recent years.
It often involves a minority of students either staying at Halls of Residents or those who rent accommodation within residential areas from private landlords or public sector housing, such as Housing Associations.
The problem not only impacts on local residents, but may even affect other students who prefer peace and quiet to carry out their studies.
Finding a remedy often requires a number of agencies working together, such as the police, local authorities and colleges, including student union representatives. We particularly want to hear of situations where a successful solution was found. There is some debate into whether educational establishments should have greater powers to deal with anti-social students who cause problems outside the colleges they attend.
The UK Noise Association will put forward recommendations in its report and intends to raise awareness of this problem at parliamentary level.
Comments are appreciated and should be sent to the UK Noise Association at 1st Floor, Middle Block, Sir John Lyon House, 5 High Timber Street, London EC4V 3PA.
VAL WEEDON MBE, Secretary, UKNA.
