LANCASHIRE lass Gracie Fields became a Dame in the New Year's Honours.
And an MBE went to 57-year-old Blackburn man Arnold Cresswell for his work in the world of science.
Mr Cresswell, who was a scientific officer with the Institute of Aviation Medicine, was a former pupil of Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School.
