THE achievements of 2003 rank among the best ever for Radcliffe Swimming Club.
And there has already been talk of increasing the capacity of the trophy cupboard after the club's remarkable performances this year!
Under the guidance of chief coach John Barrow, the club team has won five swimming trophies. And there have been many individual successes at local, county and district level.
Other active groups within the club are the biathlon and triathlon sections. The club has sent four competitors to the World Biathle Championships and several more attended the National Biathle Championships where club vice-chairman Mark Evans became the National Masters Champion.
Following a Lottery grant, the club was able to develop its water polo training, especially at junior level. The 15 years and under mixed team won four trophies, and the senior team has won two competitions this year.
The club, which was formed in 1899, has more than 400 members, and puts its current success down to the introduction of the Amateur Swimming Association's National Plan for Teaching Swimming.
The only requirement for membership is a minimum age of five, and new members can enter at any level. But demand is currently so high, there is a waiting list for applicants.
