A COUPLE who lost their baby daughter when she was born prematurely last year are to host a fund-raiser for the hospital where she was born.

Sara and Jason Ashton, of Cornelian Street, Roe Lee, Blackburn, are hoping to host a Rock and Roll Cabaret on Saturday, March 27 at Orchard Working Men's Club, Whalley New Road, Bastwell.

Jason, 33, a full-time Elvis impersonator, will be performing on the night which will also feature a raffle and buffet.

All money raised from the event will go to the neo-natal unit at Queen's Park Hospital, Blackburn.

Sara, 25, a social services manager, gave birth to the couple's first child, Angel Louise, in May last year.

She died when she was just one day old. Doctors believe her death was linked to pre-eclampsia.

Pre-eclampsia is a complication of pregnancy caused by a defect in the placenta and is responsible for the deaths of 500-600 babies in the UK every year.

Sara said: "We are hoping to be able to raise £2,000 for the unit and hope that as many people as possible will turn up on the night to support it."

The event is ticket only and tickets, priced at £5, are available by ringing Sara or Jason on 01254 695364 or 0781 3042871.
