A RESIDENT of a Lancashire mental institution may have been the oldest man in the country, it was revealed.

Records suggested Tommy Alberts, a patient at Whittingham Hospital, in Longridge, could be 112. Tommy was found wandering the streets of Liverpool in 1924 and was diagnosed as mentally ill.

HOSPITAL staff were upset over plans to introduce car parking charges at Queen's Park Hospital and Blackburn Royal Infirmary.

It was set to cost staff about £100 a year for a space.
