PETROL rationing came back to East Lancashire garages as motorists queued in hordes to top up their tanks before pumps ran dry as a new oil crisis swamped the North West.
Schools across Hyndburn, Burnley, Ribble Valley and Blackburn shut because of the crisis.
The oil and coal stocks at schools were so low they could not be kept from freezing.
