AN Accrington fire engine crashed into the wall of Holme Mill, Padiham as ice and snow brought traffic to a virtual crawl on treacherous roads.
The engine and its turntable ladder were badly damaged and fireman Alec Clarke of Princess Avenue, Clitheroe, was slightly hurt.
A 400-year-old cottage was kept up with the times. A helicopter station was planned for Ridge Cottage, Burnley.
