A HUSBAND who ransacked a house and attacked his wife after finding her in bed with another man kept his anonymity and walked free from court.

A judge ruled the 48-year-old Clitheroe man, who pleaded guilty to burglary at a house in Chorley with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, should not be named for the sake of his children.

Preston Crown Court was told that he saw a "red mist" and threw a sink and toilet at his wife.

Charles Brown, prosecuting, said the couple's three-year marriage had not been going well and the wife formed an attachment with the other man - their lodger.

The defendant had moved to a new address and when he arrived at his wife's home, went upstairs. Mr Brown said: "He pushed his wife into the bathroom and into the bath, ripped the sink from its fittings and threw it. It struck her on the leg. He repeated that with the toilet pan which also struck her."

He then broke windows downstairs and caused damage before going back upstairs where he stabbed at the bed with a kitchen knife.

Neighbours alerted police who described the house as "trashed".

Janet Ironfield, defending, said the couple were trying to make a fresh start. The other relationship ended a few days after the incident.

Recorder Gilbart QC banned identification of the defendant to protect the couple's children.

He gave hin an 18 month jail sentence, suspended for two years.
