REGARDING the story about Darwen having less spent on it than Blackburn (LET, January 2), Coun Bill Taylor knows that we know but the sad thing is that even when faced with the facts that millions upon millions more are spent on Backburners, not just this year but every year since Blackburn took over Darwen.

It will not make an ha'porth of difference until the people of Darwen realise this and vote all Labour councillors out.

We have been told that a lot of regeneration money is about to be spent here which will redress the balance. Correct me if I am wrong, but up to now £1million in the form of a lottery grant is the only money that has been forthcoming for regeneration in Darwen Town Centre.

If the figures you published are correct and £763 is spent more per head on Backburners than Darweners this million is nothing more than a drop in the ocean.

Also, the regeneration plans are only for the town centre.

Coun Taylor says the borough gets value for money. Yes, as long as you live in Blackburn and the people of Darwen have to pay.

He also says he wants to listen to what people have to say. Well I for one say spend just the same on the people of Darwen that you spend on the people of Blackburn then the borough may stand a chance of thriving.

ROY DAVIES, Olive Lane, Darwen.
