TRAVELLERS passing through Burnley's flagship bus station will be able to see the marks of its success after two plaques were unveiled.
The plaques celebrate the fact that the £3million structure in Red Lion Street, opened in August 2002, has twice been voted the best in the country.
Judges at the national Bus Industry Awards voted the glass-fronted structure the best bus station in the country and it was also given an Interchange Award for the best medium-sized interchange project.
Lancashire County Council and Burnley Council were jointly responsible for the bus station plan and members of both authorities were at the site yesterday to unveil the plaques.
Lancashire County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation, Coun Jean Yates, said: "The bus station was redesigned to make people feel good about travelling by bus in a bid to revitalise public transport."
Lancashire County Council and Lancashire United Buses recently won a third award for their marketing of the X1/X2 service between Whalley and Manchester.
