A RUNAWAY motorcyclist from Prestwich who led police on a 130mph chase has been jailed.

Robert Fisher, aged 25, sped away when a traffic officer signalled for him to stop at a roundabout in Salford. Fisher, who had a pillion passenger, sped off towards Swinton on an R-registration Yamaha R6.

He reached speeds of 100mph and went through red lights before he and his passenger were knocked off the bike when it struck a car, Manchester's Minshull Street Crown Court heard.

The passenger fled but Fisher got back on the bike, heading towards the M60 and he reached speeds of 130mph.

At the Trafford Centre, he pulled up outside the entrance to Selfridges department store and was arrested on an escalator.

Fisher told police he failed to stop as he had no documents for the bike and his passenger believed there was a warrant out for his arrest.

Fisher, of Bolton Close, Prestwich, was jailed for six months and banned for two years after pleading guilty to dangerous driving on May 35 last year.

Mr Justin Hayhoe, defending the father-of-one, said he had failed to do "the sensible thing" and stop.
