DOUGIE Lampkin made home advantage count when he won the British round of the World Indoor Trials Championship.
In front of a capacity crowd of 8,000 at the Sheffield Arena, Lampkin eclipsed his rivals with a dominant display of inch-perfect riding.
The Sandiford of Burnley rider was in no mood to disappoint his loyal fans and from the very first section signalled his determination to regain the championship lead.
Only Spaniard Adam Raga threatened Lampkin's supremacy, although the Montesa man always had the upper hand as took his tally to eight wins in nine visits to Sheffield.
"I only ride one indoor trial in England, so it is important to put on a good performance for my loyal fans," he said.
"It hurt when I lost last year, but it made me more focused than ever. Although the pressure to deliver was immense, I felt confident and strong going into the event.
"I had a really good first lap, apart from a mistake in section eight, but I knew I had to ride well as the competition to qualify was fierce."
Lampkin's maximum on the penultimate hazard was his only loss in the heat, making him the best qualifier and securing the all-important 'last man' position in the four rider final.
Pulling clear of the pack with a faultless display, everything looked safe until a crash in the bogey section eight left Lampkin on the deck and his bike out of action.
Nursing a badly-bruised knee and forced to ride his spare machine, the Yorkshireman bounced back with a gritty performance to clean the section, win the event and re-take the lead of championship.
Next round is in Koblenz, Germany on Saturday.
