THE Atherton and District White Ensign Association was formed over 40 years ago to promote the camaraderie ex-Navy shipmates forged in the forces.
But as the years have taken their toll, and more and more members obey the last pipe, the association has turned to other members of the forces, regardless of which branch they served in.
But again, as with other associations we are struggling to keep going, so I appeal to any ex-members of the forces or serving members to come and join us, male or female. To keep the tradition of the Navy we desperately need Navy personnel, but all forces personnel will be made welcome.
Membership is also open to associate members who express their sympathy with the objects of the association.
We meet every other Sunday at Howe Bridge Village Club at 12.30pm, have dances at St Richard's Jubilee Hall, Atherton, and enjoy numerous visits to other associations. The association also supports local charities.
J Cassidy,
Secretary.
