BLACKBURN boss Graeme Souness has told Dwight Yorke he still has a future with Rovers providing he continues to show the same desire as he did at Molineux last night.

Yorke came to the rescue with a late headed equaliser as Rovers drew 2-2 with Wolves in a gripping encounter in the Midlands.

And Souness has challenged the 32-year-old to show the same hunger and application on a more consistent basis during the second half of the season as the club faces a frantic battle for survival.

Yorke is unhappy at being overlooked in favour of 19-year-old striker Paul Gallagher and that led to speculation linking him with a move to Wolves earlier this week.

But the former Manchester United ace managed to put his disappointment to one side as he climbed off the bench to grab a precious point-saver with just 12 minutes remaining against bottom-of-the-table Wanderers.

"Dwight's got the hump with me at the moment but he's shown me that he still wants to play here and that pleases me," said Souness.

"I'm happy for him to stay here if he shows the willingness to play the way I want him to play and the way I feel he can play.

"Dwight is super-talented but it's no good having all that ability if you don't combine that with real hard work and to be a hard-working player, everything in your life has to be right because the demands of the Premiership are so great."

Yorke wasn't the only striker to return to goal-scoring form either last night.

Andy Cole also got his name on the score-sheet for the first time since September 20 as Rovers took a 14th minute lead - and that marked his 250th Premiership goal.

But second-half goals from Paul Butler and Alex Rae appeared to have secured the points for Wolves before Yorke produced his late heroics.

Meanwhile, Souness's injury-worries intensified last night as defenders Craig Short and Andy Todd joined the casualty list.

Todd played no part in the game at all after damaging his calf in training while Short had to be substituted in the 43rd minute as a result of a hamstring strain.

Todd should be back to face Bolton on Saturday but that game might come too soon for Short.

"I don't think it's a big one but he's damaged his hamstring so we'll have to wait and see," said Souness.

"As for Andy, he damaged his calf in training but he should be okay for the Bolton game."
