MUSICIAN Simon Minshall had the shock of his life when he was named winner of the National Children's Orchestra's top award.
The 12-year-old bass trombone player from Astley, pictured, was in London playing with the under 13 NCO when the announcement was made that he was the winner of the prestigious Liz Rorison Prize at the weekend course and concert at the Queen Elizabeth Hall.
The Chetham's School of Music student is a member of Astley Youth band and Bolton Youth Jazz Orchestra. His latest achievement is a real honour.
Following a successful first year in the NCO Simon is delighted to have passed his audition for the coming year's comprehensive programme.
